Do re mi poop...

Every Tuesday nights I have voice lessons. I started voice lessons 3 weeks ago and I go to one session a week for 30 minutes. Last week was my final session of learning warm-ups. The reason it took me a while to learn warm-ups was because my voice coach uses a weird technique where you sing a bunch of scales, consisting of vowels like "Oo's", "Ah's", "E's" and much more..

This week was my first time bringing in my guitar and playing a song in front of my voice teacher. He normally likes people to bring in CDG's, but let me bring in my guitar because I can play my own songs. The song I chose to sing was 'Collide' by Howie Day. As I started playing and got past the first chorus of the song, he cut me off and told me that I need a better song choice because when people tend to play guitar, they sing softer and don't use their full range of their voice. So, I asked if I can try a different song that I thought would allow me to project my voice more.

Before I started playing my second song choice 'First Time' by Lifehouse, I made sure I had good posture, my soft palate is up, my tongue is down, and I breathe using my diaphragm. After I played past the first chorus, he cut me off again and pointed out that I was breathing too late, resetting my resonating space and breath support between each phrase, and still holding back my full sound.. =/

I think I'm gonna go ahead and buy a CDG player/karaoke machine like my teacher recommended.. I also wanna make a Myspace karaoke account cause it seems fun.
